Clean energy from engineered bacteria Print E-mail

The Genomic Engineering Group at InteLAB is pioneering a work on hydrogen production by genetic modified bacteria. After a series of in silico metabolic studies the group is now pursuing an experimental demonstration of improved hydrogen yields after genetic interference in producing organisms. The goal is to use hydrogen produced from biodiesel residues to power fuel cells. The experimental work has been carried out by MEng student Julia de Vasconcellos Castro with the support of Prof Agenor Furigo Junior from the EngeBio group (http://www.enq.ufsc.br/labs/probio).
